for I Got Receipts!

Effective date: 19 August 2026  ·  Last updated: 19 August 2026

I Got Receipts! does not collect your data. There is no account to create, no server to sign in to, and no analytics.

Your voice notes are transcribed on your iPhone and rewritten into bullet points on your iPhone, by Apple's built-in on-device models. The text stays in the app's private storage on your device. We — the developer — never receive it, never see it, and have no way to request it.

The rest of this page explains that in detail, including the few places where your data can legitimately leave your phone: when you choose to share it, and when your phone is backed up.

What the app handles

When you record a note, the app works with:

Audio is processed as you speak and is not saved. The app does not keep recordings — only the resulting text.

Where it is stored

Everything above is stored in the app's private container on your device, using Apple's SwiftData framework. A small summary of your daily activity — how many notes you recorded on each day, and nothing else — is written to a shared container so the home screen widget can draw your streak.

None of this is transmitted anywhere by the app.

What we collect

Nothing.

The app contains no analytics, no crash reporting service, no advertising identifiers, no tracking of any kind, and no third-party code libraries. It makes no network requests of its own. We do not operate a server that the app talks to, because the app does not talk to one.

We therefore hold no personal information about you, and cannot sell, share, or disclose what we do not have.

Permissions the app asks for

Microphone. Required to record your voice note. Audio is captured only while you hold the record button.

Speech recognition. Required for transcription. On the iOS versions the app supports, this transcription runs on your device. Your audio is not sent to Apple or anyone else for this purpose.

Notifications, if you turn on the weekly reminder. The reminder is scheduled locally by your iPhone. There is no push server, and no message contains your notes — only a prompt to write your weekly update.

Apple's role

The app is built on features Apple provides as part of iOS. Three of them are worth naming:

On-device transcription. The first time you record in a given language, iOS may download a speech model from Apple. This downloads a model to your phone; it does not upload your speech.

Apple Intelligence. The writing you see — bullets, STAR stories, weekly updates — is produced by Apple's on-device foundation model. Your transcript is processed locally. The app does not use Private Cloud Compute or any server-based model.

Purchases. Subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details, and receive only Apple's confirmation of whether a subscription is active.

Your use of iOS is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, which we do not control.

Two ways your data can leave your phone

We want to be straightforward about these rather than let "everything stays on your device" do more work than it should.

When you share. The app has share buttons on your bullets, stories, and weekly updates. If you tap one and send an update to your manager, that text leaves your device because you sent it. What happens to it afterwards is governed by whatever service you sent it through — Mail, Slack, Messages — not by us.

When your phone is backed up. The app's data is included in your iPhone's regular backups. If you back up to iCloud, your notes are stored in your iCloud account under Apple's terms and your own iCloud encryption settings. If you back up to a computer, they are in that backup. This is standard iOS behaviour for app data, and it is your backup, not ours — but it does mean a copy can exist outside the phone.

Deleting your data

Delete individual receipts, stories, or weekly updates by swiping on them in the app.

Deleting the app removes all of its data from your device. Because we never receive your data, there is nothing for you to request from us and nothing for us to delete on your behalf. Copies in your own backups are removed according to Apple's backup policies.

Children

The app is intended for people in the workplace and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, children included.

Your rights

Privacy laws such as the GDPR and CCPA give you rights to access, correct, export, and delete personal information a company holds about you. This app holds none: your data is on your own device, under your control, and we have no copy.

Requests of that kind are usually answered by a company searching its databases. We have no database to search.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of the app changes how data is handled — for example, if optional cloud features are ever added — this policy will be updated before that version ships, and the change will be described here rather than quietly absorbed. The "last updated" date above will change.
